Was Kevin Pietersen worth all the trouble?
April 30th, 2009 by punterKevin Pietersen batted in his last game of the IPL2 and yet again, he didn’t score any runs or contribute in any substantial way to the team’s victory. In fact, had it not been for Boucher and some poor fielding by the KKR, the Royal Challengers Bangalore would have lost again.
Consider this — now, that Pietersen will be gone, either Kumble or Dravid would be asked to step in as the team’s captain and this is something that Mr. Mallya knew all along. So, he was probably so confident about KP’s performance that he was ready to buy his services for a handful of games and that too for outrightly bizarre sums of money.
The result? KP’s batting and his captaincy has been absolutely abysmal. He seems to be still fighting the ghosts of being removed from England’s captaincy. Isn’t it a bit belittling for iconic players like Dravid and Kumble to be asked to step-in as second-choice skippers?
