Bravo finally comes to the party

May 13th, 2009 by punter

It had to happen at some point in time. Dwayne Bravo is just too good a player to not make a serious impression in the second edition of the IPL. The fact is that his performance has been largely held responsible for the MI’s not being able to finish some matches and secure wins in closely-contested games. However, against the Punjab XI team, he rose to the occasion and delivered the momentum to the innings, opening the batting and even bowled two useful overs. However, it was his batting that was the real highlight as he went about punishing some of off-colour bowlers of the Punjab side like Sreesanth. Regarding Sree — I have seen this bowler from India bowl pretty good spells but then he seems to be dancing around too much with his face plastered across many hoardings and if you come to think of it, he really has just one outstanding test match performance to this credit till date. Well, as they say T20 is a spontaneous game and I guess it needs hyped-up players like Sree to engage some instant attention.

Bravo had been contributing with the ball all this while, but this was the first time he really contributed with the bat. With Jayasuriya and Sachin is lukewarm form, Duminy needed someone else from the lineup to assist him. In the last match it was Rahane, and in this one it was Bravo. Bravo’s start of form might be a really good thing for Mumbai because he can be the finisher that Mumbai are terribly lacking. Duminy is a collector, but he cannot destroy the opposition bowling attack like Bravo can.

Hopefully, Mumbai peak at the right time and make it to the semi finals!

I totally agree with what u said about Bravo> however, MI still don’t look like getting their act together> Jayasuriya’s inability to fire-up the batting at the top is really hurting them bad and that is what had forced Bravo’s elevation for this match.

Yes, Mumbai are far from being confident of making it to the semis. The way they play tonight’s match against Royals and the outcome of that match will clarify a lot of things! :)
