Symonds: Think he is beyond redemption now
June 5th, 2009 by punterIf there has to be one tale of a cricketer having a whole lot of talent but guilty of being washing it down with alcohol and every conceivable problem that comes along with being man who cannot exercise some degree of control over his off-field actions, then it has to be that of Andrew Symonds. In a way, it is a bit surprising to see that the Aussies persisted with him for such a long time, even when it became painfully evident that seeking cricketing redemption was not on his mind. However, this time, with Symonds being sent back home and Ricky Ponting, the man who has blindly supported him, too calling ‘it’ a bit too much, this could be the last time we see Symonds in the Aussie national colours.
He has just taken too many liberties and has taken his supporters and the CA folks for granted, for far too long. I can only guess that the pain of not being someone famous in the world is lesser than having tasted the limelight and fall apart even after realizing that you have the potential of sticking to the pedestal that people have put you on.

Nicely written blog Punter.
Remember how the Aussie media hounded Bhajji for his show down with Symonds. Now the entire world knows who was at fault.
