Aussies Earn An Early Exit

June 9th, 2009 by kapoor

Some folks may say that it was bound to happen with the Aussie team — being ousted from the World Cup T20. The reasons floated were many, including the off/on presence of Ponting during the practice sessions and the controversies surrounding Andrew Symonds. However, still not many of them would have bet their money on the fact that the Aussies would face such an early exit from the tournament. They played two matches and were totally outplayed in both of them.

Given the seriousness of yesterday’s match, it was unusual to see the Kangaroos not jumping around with the usual aggression that they seem to tap into, every time they are cornered. This is what the Lankans smelled and this is exactly what led to the Aussie defeat. Their bowlers just did not test the Lankan batsmen who were all too happy to wait on the backfoot and cut the loose deliveries. On the other hand, Mendis was at his wily best, mixing-up the straighter ones with his stock deliveries to bewilder the Aussie batsmen, as he picked-up three crucial wickets.

Aah…. the sweetness of seeing Australia out so early in a tournament. Only an Indian victory ranks above that happiness! :)

  2. writeman Says:

LOL, Jatan, you are absolutely right. Above all lies the happiness of India beating Pakistan.

Talking of happiness, though not in the same scale as Australia’s exit, it was also pleasing to see Ireland edging away Bangladesh. India’s early exit in the 2007 ODI World Cup almost killed interest in cricket till we won the last T20 World Cup.

The 2007 WC… that was painful.. to translate a well-known hindi proverb… remembering it is like touching a really painful nerve!! I can never sympathize with Bangladesh… even though that loss was more of a mistake by the Indian team than Bangladesh’s brilliant play.

  4. jatanr Says:

Writeman .. i agree… winning against pakistan ranks above everything… hmm… let me think again… what about a victory against Australia ? ;)

I guess we are getting too sadist here! :)
