India Depend too much on Zaheer
June 12th, 2009 by kapoorYesterday’s match in which India lost its first Super 8 encounter against the WI is a reminder that the team is depending too much on Zaheer Khan to deliver the initial blows to the opposing batting side. In fact, this has been the pattern in the recent ODIs too and without Zaheer Khan taking some quick wickets, rest of the bowlers seem to struggle to be penetrative.
It might be worth trying out someone like Praveen Kumar who is known to swing the ball and could be very handy against the left-handers under the damp English conditions. One thing more needs to be looked into — without Viru at the top and by not playing Jadeja as the number seven/eight batsman, is the Indian team playing with a batsman too short? Karthick has not yet arrived but it still remains to be seen how he will be fitted within the team. I guess the only option of balancing the side now is to play someone like Jadeja instead of Irfan Pathan but then that would mean playing two left-arm slow bowlers. This one is a bit tricky, isn’t it?
