Did controversies alone bring down India?
June 14th, 2009 by kapoorWith India losing yesterday’s match against England, it is almost certain that they have been knocked out of the T20 World Cup. In the hindsight, it becomes apparent that the Indian team was courting quite a few controversies since the very first day of their World Cup campaign. For starters, just as the IPL 2009 ended, there were quite a few reports regarding Dhoni, that said he was beginning to show signs of being too vocal and critical of his team members. However, I really don’t think that was much of a controversy but it did get highlighted in the media. Then, there were reports of rift between Dhoni and the chief selector, Mr. Srikkanth on the issue of a second wicket-keeper not being sent in the squad. India’s campaign had just begun when reports of some unwanted friction between Dhoni and Sehewag came to the fore. The point is that it appears when the Indian team’s captain is put under so much pressure due to issues that are not really his fault, it is natural that his focus and the ability to keep things rolling are susceptible to get compromised. May be, the Indian board and the media need to just give a bit of breathing space to Dhoni to do what he does best - taking independent, brave decisions.

Quite honestly, I have not been following all these controversies and reports, but in my mind the single most reason India lost today’s match was the fact that Ravidra Jadeja who was sent in to a “job” did exactly the opposite….Took too many deliveries to make 25 (35 deliveries) when he was suppose to do the opposite…and I am sure it was Dhoni’s decision to send him up the order.
