Your team for the dead rubber against SA

June 16th, 2009 by jatanr

Now that India is out of the World T20 Cup, they may as well do some experimentation in order to get the best possible combination of players and win the match to salvage some pride. So what do you think should be the lineup of the playing eleven for tonight’s match?

Here is mine:

Gambhir
Irfan
Yuvraj
Rohit
Dhoni
Raina
Yusuf
Jadeja
Zaheer
Ojha
RP Singh

A few points to note:

1. I am opening with Irfan. The reason is that Rohit definitely should not open. Since we do not have a genuine opening batsman (do we miss Tendulkar here?), Irfan can do the job as a stop-gap.
2. Raina should drop down the order and Yuvraj who is in prime form should get in early and set himself in.
3. Rohit can come at No. 4, where he is most suited.
4. I will keep Jadeja because he also provides the spin option
5. I will keep Ojha because he is in such great form. I will leave out Harbhajan
6. RP Singh should be included in place of Ishant since Ishant has been out of sorts while RP was in prime form in the IPL.
7. Only 3 front line bowlers. The remaining 8 overs can be easily shared between Irfan, Yusuf, Jadeja (all three of whom can bowl 4 overs on a good day), Yuvraj, Rohit and Raina.

I wish we had a similar team in our lost matches. Maybe the result would have been different. Hindsight is always 20-20 though.
