Let all arguments cease
December 4th, 2009 by googlyprabhakarLast time I had written about Sehwag being an all time great, there was a lot of hue and cry raised in this blog. ( I think it was sometime around 2 years ago , when Sehwag was dropped). Rahul Dravid was almost in tears explaining to the media about the talent of Sehwag just before the 2007 world cup. In his exact words in the press conference Sehwag was ‘no ordinary kid’. He has proved all of us right. He is surely one of the all time greats and definitely the most ‘winningest’ test batsman that India has produced along with Rahul Dravid. His is perhaps one of the rare cases, where the clone has surpassed the original. I still remember the time , around a decade ago when Sachin had completed his 6,000 runs. There was a lot of media hype around the event, not that Sachin wanted it. Whereas Sehwag’s 6,000 went almost unnoticed. That he is an opener, who has to constantly face the new ball and his audacious style make his achievements more laudable than anyone’s.

Sehwag is definitely unique…No doubt about that and it’s great that India currently have this amazing opening pair.
What I find very interesting is how we always have different rules for Sachin and for all other players. Cricket is a team sport and requires contributions from many for a team to win…
Players like Sehwag has a much better luck in the team he plays with than Sachin did in most part of his career..There have been countless occasions when Sachin got India close to a win or a draw and after his wicket it all went down-the-drain. Shame on othes….It CAN NOT be Sachin’s fault. Get over that once and for all.
Think about this…
If Sehwag Scores 300 and no one else does a thing, India will still lose miserably. But then you would say how terrible the team is and how great Sehwag is…For Sachin in the same situation, you comment would be one of the following
“He did not finish the job..”
“When Sachin plays, India loses..”
“Sachin plays for himself”
etc. etc.
But then again whoever said that life was fair…

How I wish Sachin had come close to winning matches for India ‘countless’ number of times!!! The sad truth is that you can ‘count’ those occasions quite easily and if you were to discount ODIs ( which is not the real indicator for great batting epics) then you have pretty much none!!! Except for Sachin’s innings in Chennai against Pakistan and his 155 against Australia , again in Chennai in 1998 , the cupboard is empty.
