CB Series Cricket: India, Australia & Sri Lanka.

January 30th, 2008 by prashant

The action starts again tomorrow after a break of less than a week. The Indian team has changed quite a bit from it’s Test squad with Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble, Jafar & Zaheer/VRV going back to India and players like Raina, Rohit Sharma, Uthappa, Praveen Kumar, Sreesanth & Piyush Chawla & more joining the team.

As has been in the recent past, it will be interesting to see India’s playing 11 from the T20 and first ODI. Will Sachin play in the T20 or will it be Sehwag and Gambhir opening?

Let me have a go at the possible playing 11 for the T20 @ MCG tomorrow. The following 10 players are certain (assuming of course that they are fit)

Gambhir, Sehwag, Uthappa, Yuvraj, Rohit Sharma, Dhoni, Pathan, Bhajji, RP Singh, Sreesanth

Who will take the 11th spot?

Sachin? Raina? Dinesh Karthik? or Praveen Kumar?

It will be interesting to see….

I think Sachin should not play in the T20 game. He has been included in the squad because of the ODIs.

Sachin’s aggressive batting and running between the wickets is suited to the T20 game, but I think at this stage in his career, he should not get into a new format of the game but rather concentrate on the Test and ODI formats.

Also, Yuvraj is probably not available for the T20 game because of his injury. I think Manoj Tiwary should be given a chance.

Also, RP might rest because of his hamstring injury.

Here is my playing 11 for the T20 game:
    1. Sehwag
    2. Gambhir
    3. Uthappa
    4. Raina
    5. Dhoni
    6. Rohit Sharma
    7. Tiwary
    8. Pathan
    9. Bhajji
    10. Sreesanth
    11. Ishant

I agree and disagree at the same time. It’s true that Sachin should not be looking to play and understand this new format, but on the hand, why not play a few of these as well so he can say later that “been there done that” even for T20.

Also, I am sure the Australian public would love to see him bat in this format and not too many times you get to play in front of 90000+ crowd.

I have a feeling that he will play today…Let’s see.

I don’t think there is anything to worry about. Dhoni had already said that his team is taking this T20 as a practice match since a few of the players had arrived in Australia just a day or two before. You cannot expect the new youngsters to arrive and start hitting right from day 2. If anyone is to be blamed for this, it should be the BCCI. There was NOT even ONE practice match before the T20 and the ODIs started. Hence in the bigger interest of the CB series, the T20 was treated as a practice match.

There is no reality check. India are the World T20 champs, and they have proved it over and over again. This was India’s only 2nd defeat ever in T20 format. When Australia lost the Perth test, was there any reality check? Hardly!
