‘Bad Boy’, ‘Obnoxious Weed’, Hayden and Harbhajan, Is this Cricket?
February 27th, 2008 by ajantaICC wake up! What is going on in International Cricket? The Cricket Champions are going on record and saying things like this to their visitors? Wow, this is first class cricket for you and did I hear anyone say that Australia and Australians are good hosts? They were the ones complaining about the Indian fans when they were visiting us not too long ago. Are they really scared that Indians are walking their walk and talking their talk? Looks like they can’t handle defeats like most champions can’t and it is actually quite amusing to see them being frustrated and helpless for once! What do you’ll think?

On top of it all, it seems that after being reprimanded for his comments, Hayden said “I maintain my innocence, my intentions were never to denigrate cricket or anyone. But in the spirit of cricket I respect and accept the decision.”
How funny and Hippocratic is that? He called Harbhajan an obnoxious weed, but Hayden’s intentions weren’t to denigrate Bhajji!! Than what was it? Was it to add “4 Moons” to his praise?
I liked Dhoni’s comments about this incident when he said that Indians are slowly but surely understanding and learning this “art” that the Australians have mastered. You can already see the effect. Though most of you may not agree, I am betting my “money” on India winning the CB Series.

It’s a good thing that Hayden is 36 and won’t be around much longer! Cricket certainly doesn’t need people like him. On top of that, Adam Gilchrist today defended Hayden saying that he was one of the most respected team members and that’s all that matters to him. Plus, he doesn’t think Ponting said “f*** off” because he didn’t “hear” it. Excuse my language, but what sort of bulls*** it that? Just because you didn’t hear it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Also, just because Hayden is respected in your team, it does not give him the right to call names. I think it is a good thing that Gilchrist is retiring as well, because if anything that is worse than these characters, it is the people defending them. By getting involved in these matters, Gilchrist is losing respect in my eyes.
Somehow, Australians in general don’t know what the phrases ’spirit of cricket’ or the phrase ‘in the right spirit’ mean. And if they know it, then they certainly know the wrong meaning. These same Australians were in ‘high spirits’ so to speak and ended up beating the cricketer David Hookes to death in a bar brawl a few years ago. I think that is what they mean by ’spirit of cricket’!
Another comment worth noting was the ‘bad boy’ comment. Hayden said - “I called him a bad boy. He took offence to that. I thought that was quite funny. I said mate, you should be flattered, it’s a clothing range.”
In that case, Symonds should be even more flattered that Harbhajan called him a monkey as in India, people worship monkeys as descendants of God Hanuman - who was a monkey himself!
I completely agree with Prashant. I am betting my ‘money’ on India as well. May India spoil Gilchrist and Hogg’s farewell party!
