India South Africa Test Series: Chennai Test.

March 17th, 2008 by prashant

Same old same old. India’s playing 11 for the First Test in Chennai?

The 10 spots are quite obvious (or are they?) It is the 11th that is always most interesting.

Jafar, Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman, Dhoni, Pathan, Kumble, Sreesanth.

Who would get the nod for the 11th spot? Bhajji or Chawla or RP? Or will Pathan open with Sehwag again and allow for 5 bowler attack of Pathan, Sreesanth, RP, Kumble & Bhajji (Chawla)?

If Jafar plays then considering it is Chennai, India will play 2 seamers, 2 spinners attack, so one of RP or Sreesanth will miss out.

Makes sense?

It certainly won’t be Chawla. I don’t think they’d prefer two leggies. Between Bhajji and RP Singh, I’d take a lil’ bit of gamble and go for Bhajji. The proteas are not very good players of spin bowling, especially offspin. I’ve seen Murali trouble the hell out of them. So, it would be an interesting contest between their batsmen and Bhajji on the fourth/fifth day.

Disclaimer: By mentioning Murali’s name, I’m in no way comparing Murali with Bhajji. :)

Sehwags innings was splendid really really good but what i cannot understand is why S.A not apply the choke until death stategy rather than the striaght forward attack they cud not get him out, and its a well known fact that if Sehwag gets bogged down he gets himself in trouble, Obviously Smith has a lot to learn,,,,@maruder this is what i meant about the likes of Waugh,Taylor,Ponting captaincy,,they get the rub rate down cause of their excellent fielding and boom something happens. After seeing the SA vs India game i came to one conclusion that neither of the two teams are ready to put the crown on just yet. S.A made 540 India will probably end up making a lot more. And both teams have so far cancelled each other out. S.A if sent out to bat on the final day will manage to hold on yet i must say that after scoring 540 if they still loose they have themselves to blame
