Viru Rocks!!!

March 29th, 2008 by pradnyarai

Viru Rocks!!! The visitors’ mouth was left wide open just gazing the amazing shots played by Viru. He showed to the world what he is made of, with his mind boggling knock of 318. Hats off to Sehwag, with what an ease he lead the ball across the boundary rope is really commendable. He has even set a record for scoring the fastest triple hundred in test cricket. Unfortunately his claim of breaking Brian Lara’s record was not accomplished but his score of 319 spoke volumes about his talent, fitness and commitment. This was enough to shut the mouths of his critics including mine. The visitors were helpless in front of this legend just left every spectator of the game spellbound. This was a much needed knock for Sehwag and of course marks a fresh beginning to Sehwag in world cricket.

I really believe that getting dropped from the team pushed Sehwag to fight back. Of course credit goes to him for not giving up. Since he has come back, whether he has scored centuries or not he is definitely coming across who is interested in staying at the crease but still playing his natural game. Previously he it looked as if he was not even thinking about occupying the crease, but was just swinging his bat away.

An in-form and more importantly sincere Sehwag would be a huge plus for the Indian side, ironically more for the Test side than ODI.

Sehwag is an interesting, intriguing character. Two huge pluses - he is freakishly talented and he never thinks of records. One huge minus - sometimes, he lacks commitment.

But the way I see it, when Sehwag clicks big time, you are almost sure of “winning” a test match. Notice the emphasis on winning. Not just saving the match. When he doesn’t click, the match becomes anyone’s game. In that perspective, he is perhaps the most influential match winning batsman we’ve had in a long, long time.
