Time To Clean The House!!

April 3rd, 2008 by prashant

I think the Indian Cricket Selectors for the Test team need to adopt the same strategy they did for the ODI team. House Cleaning. Got to get rid of the Dravids and Gangulys and even Jafars and get some fresh blood (Kaif ;)

When it was required to hold his ground and stop the bleeding Dravid could not do it. I think Ganguly has lost all motivation and Jafar looks too lazy and lost. On the bowling front kick out Sreesanth. I am sick of his antics and his bowling today was poor. It is sad but Kumble might also be playing his last series.

It is pretty obvious that India is going to lose this test and lose it by an Innings. Use this as an opportunity and get new players in.

On the batting front, I will keep dravid for some more time, replace jaffer with akash chopra (i dont know what more he needs to do to get into the test side… he was one of the heaviest scorers in Ranji this season) and replace ganguly with kaif or yuvraj (kaif since he also scored a lot this season.. one last chance for him maybe?)

On the bowling front, I think we need to come up with a different strategy. It is quite obvious that sreesanth and RP are quite ineffective in indian conditions. So we should get pacers who can do well in indian conditions.. someone like Praveen Kumar, maybe? Ishant can be tried out too. But basically have separate bowlers for Indian and Foreign conditions.

@prashant: Will you please leave Dravid alone? Give us a break man, when he sticks around you criticize him of playing slow and once he doesn’t stick around you criticize him… and then you say you are a Dravid fan! Ha!

@jatanr: I like the idea of having a separate main bowling team depending on where we are playing. Another factor to add would be against who we are playing too maybe. Although, it will be a complex formula to pick a team then :)

Rahul Dravid deserves some more chances. This is so because , as soon as you we say Dravid our mind conjures up images of his ‘match winning’ double hundreds or his back to the wall ‘match saving innings’. While with others as soon as we take their name our mind conjures up images of washing machines , biscuits, health drinks and what not!!!!!!!

  4. prashant Says:

Dravid definitely deserves more chances, but he has to believe that as well and should come out of his current ultra-defensive frame of mind. And BTW, when you think of Rahul Dravid, in addition to his “wall” character innings, you also think about “clean” shaves. Check out the Gillette video just added :)

  5. googlyprabhakar Says:

Cannot but agree with you. You are perfectly correct. He is the only person who is fit ( apart from Anil Kumble) to share TV/ad space with real champions like Roger Federer and Tiger Woods. In fact it seems that shaving product manufacturers deal only with match winners. First it was Kapil for many long years endorsing a shaving cream and now Rahul Dravid. Don’t know how Anil Kumble missed out.

  6. googlyprabhakar Says:

Yes. It has happened once again you see. Rahul Dravid has been there when the winning runs were hit in the third test vs SA. Among the current crop he is perhaps the one who has been there the maximum number of times batting, when the winning runs were hit. Kandy , Adelaide Oval, the recent win in England( I forgot the name of the ground) and now Ahmedabad… the list befittingly keeps growing.

  7. prashant Says:

You mean Kanpur not Ahmedabad ;)
