IPL: Who Would Be The Fourth Team In The Semis?
May 22nd, 2008 by prashantBefore today’s match between Kolkata & Delhi, there were all different possibilities about which teams would make the semi-finals (other than the Rajasthan Royals. Once that match was washed out, Kolkata is out of it. Now Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai are fighting it out for the 4th position.
The next match between Delhi and Mumbai is a virtual quarter-final for Mumbai Indians. If they win that match then they are through. If Delhi wins then the fight continues.
Chennai has 2 more matches to go. One against the best team, the Royals and the other against the worst team, the Chargers. Winning one of them would see them through to Semis.
So in a nutshell the encounter between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Dare Devils is the most important remaining in the IPL first round.

Without a doubt. It’s the most important match. Chennai has two more matches to go, so I think they can make it. But going by the kind of complacency they showed last match, I think some of their players need a kick up their ass. Someone needs to remind them that they haven’t reached the Semi finals yet.
At the start of the tournament, I was rooting for Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings. DC is out of the tournament now. I’ll be happy if Chennai, my home team, can win the tournament. I know, it’s a huge ask for the boys. But still, I’m entitled to dream, right?

I think Chennai Super Kings will make it. The question is will my team, the Mumbai Indians be able to do that? They should have won their last match against the Kings XI Punjab. But what has happened has happened. The good thing for Chennai and Mumbai teams is that their destiny is in their own hands. Can’t ask for more at this stage in the tournament.

Prashant, I think Mumbai is the better team in the Delhi vs Mumbai encounter. Both teams have one dependable bowler each. McGrath for Delhi and Pollock for Mumbai. But as far as the batting is concerned, if Mumbai can dismiss Sehwag and Gambhir early, they can easily knock out the rest of the team easily. Whereas Mumbai has some depth in the batting order. But then, it all depends on how well they execute as a team.

Yes. Go Mumbai Indians!!
Can Sachin be the lone representation from India’s BIG 4? Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman are out of IPL. Can Sachin keep the “senior” representation going?
