Where Do The Mumbai Indians’ Fans Go From Here??
May 27th, 2008 by prashantIt is all over for the Mumbai Indians. They started the IPL terribly and finished it even worse. It gave it’s fans a TON of hope by stringing together 6 fantastic wins only to follow it up with 3 heart-breaking losses. Now the Semi-Final stage is set with Chennai Super Kings playing against Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Dare-Devils taking on Rajasthan Royals.
What does a Mumbai fan supposed to do? Who does he/she root for?
Should he/she root for Super Kings because it’s lead by Dhoni or the Royals because of Shane Warne, Delhi Dare-Devils for Viru or Punjab for Yuvraj?
Quite honestly as a Mumbai Indians fan, I am not sure what I will do. If I had to pick right now, I will lean towards rooting for Chennai. What about you?

As a mumbai indians fan… i absolutely do not care anymore who wins the IPL. For that matter, I may also not see all of the remaining games, including the semis and the finals.
Talk about being fanatic!

I can understand and appreciate your emotions jatanr, but because there are “other” players that I won’t mind rooting for that will be playing in the rest of the matches, I will pick a team and go for it. Of course looking at the kind of luck I have as a fan, the team I will start rooting for is in trouble

I had two favorites at the start of the tournament. Hyderabad Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings. I supported Deccan Chargers for Gilchrist and Super Kings for Dhoni. Now Deccan Chargers have gone out with the wooden spoon. I hope at least my home team Chennai goes on to win the cup.
PS: It seems Morkel is as important as Dhoni to the Super Kings team. Man; what a hitter!!!

Good for you Kris that you have one of your teams still in the running. I don’t think anyone really cares at the moment, but one piece of statistics that tells Mumbai Indians’ story is their Net Run Rate. They have the second best net run rate (across all the 8 teams) with +.570. whereas Chennai has -.192.
This shows that all of Mumbai’s losses were close and wins were quite comfortable. But then if you are not the top 4 on points then who cares what you Net Run Rate is, right?

@prashant (first comment)… I do not agree with it. Tell me something… would you root for the Tigers or Red ‘Socks’ (ok this is a bit extreme) if Jeter, Tino or Rivera went and played for them?
I did watch the other matches in parts, but just to see the shot-making. I really do not care which team wins. It may as well be Jaipur, Punjab or Delhi… all the three of them beat Mumbai in the last three matches.

I sort of agree with you and not. I am and will always be Mumbai Indians fan, but would like to see a face-off between Dhoni and Yuvraj (The Captain and Vice-Captain) when Punjab and Chennai play against each other. It would also be a lot of fun seeing McGrath and Warne competing against each other when Delhi takes on Jaipur Royals. I am putting my money on Punjab to go all the way……
All these 4 teams deserve to be there and let’s hope that both the semi-finals and the final are exciting…..
BTW, the BIG 4 of the Indian Cricket (mostly from the Test perspective) are all done….
