Ganguly needed that. He was carrying despite poor batting form. Chappel also encouraged a lot of young players (Raina, Pathan e.g.) and India did have a good run in ODIs for some time under him. I don't think this being some sabotage though. He's just too 'different' for us and yes a bit stupid too (in a very strange & scary way).
